Before starting to set the parameters of the communication
software during the installation of a weather station with a modem,
or when calling a station fails, it is important to make sure
that the telephone link is correct.
Preliminary steps:
Call the station using a traditional phone. The
station must responds and you must hear the whistling of the station's
modem( similar to the whistling of a fax machine). If it is not
the case then there are two possibilities:
1- The line immediately opens but has crackling
noise
Remove the terminal board of the station but leave
the telephone cable connected.
Recall the station. If the result is the same then the problem
is due to the terminal board and not to the box.
Disconnect the LL outlet of the board. Recall
the station. If there is no opening of the line, then the problem
is due to the terminal board.
Note : The ceramic spark gap must not have dark
marks.
2- There is no opening of the line
Activate the display by pressing any key. If the
display is still disabled, it is necessary to solve this problem
first (by verifying the connection of the solar panel, etc.).
Verify the value of the battery's voltage (INS
menu ). It must be higher than 4.90V in order for the station
to respond. If the station is blind, open it and measure the battery's
voltage using a voltmeter.
Call the station. The screen must display the message
" active telephone" . If it is not the case, then the
station is out of order.
If the message " active telephone" is
displayed while the station doesn't respond to the call, it means
that the format of the ringing signal doesn't comply with the
CCITT standards. This happens for internal telephone networks
or in some foreign countries. In this case, modify in the station
settings the parameter 'Nb sonet ' to 1 in order for the station
to respond without checking the format of the ringing signal
Important note: It is necessary to use the Cimel
telephone cable labeled by LL.
